Map of the walk
An easy walk that takes in part of the coast to coast path.
Park in Orton and walk down the Orton-Appleby road out of Orton in the
direction of Appleby. Just before you leave the village turn right past the vicarage (opposite
a footpath sign pointing in the other direction). Turn next left into a road with a no through
road sign and after a short distance turn right at a bridleway sign to Broadfell.
The path is of to the right and follows a stream which eventually you cross and then follow
again, this time on your left. You then head towards Broadfell farm and pass between farm
buildings going through two gates. A third gate is on your left and having gone through this
keep over to the left and walk between to field walls before reaching a gate which points
coast to coast walkers to the right. Go through the gate and follow the path gently upwards
passing a lime kiln on your right.
The path takes you to the Orton-Appleby road with a view of Orton Scar on your right. Cross
the road and turn right and then very shortly left down the road signposted to Crosby Ravensworth.
The path is off to the right and leads round a small conifer plantation or you could just walk
the reasonably short distance down the quiet road. Opposite a disused quarry take the path to the
left taht leads to a style and a path marked with coast to coast marker posts. Follow this path
until it descends steeply and a clear path leads from the c to c to the left. This almost
immediately takes you past Robin Hood's Grave.
Follow this path through the heather eventually reaching a style with a signpost to Orton.
You pass another lime kiln on your left.

Descend the hill looking for a gap style in the left hand corner of the field that has two
white arrows painted on it. The path continues in a straight line towards Orton Church
entually leading you to a small line of hawthorn trees. Just beyond these is a gap style
leading into the church yard. Go through the style and past the church back into Orton.
