A short walk that takes less than an hour.
Start at the swings on the common as in the photograph above. Cross the Lyvennet and look for the footpath sign to Brackenslack Lane. Climb the gap style and then walk up the slight hill. Once over the top bear left to follow a ditch which leads to a small ladder style. Once over the style cross the next field diagonally and up and over another small hill. Look out for a small bridge across a stream and once over it climb again to a style that leads on to a small metalled road. Turn right and walk up the road as far as Brackenslack farm.
Turn right at the footpath sign to go through the farm buildings to a gate just past the farm house. Once through the gate head diagonally across the field to the right to a wooden waymarked gate in a blind corner of the field. Now enter Brackenslack Wood following the way marker and heading in the same rough direction you took across the field. The path through the wood is indistinct but eventually emerges via a style into an open field. The route now follows a fairly straight line through several fields with either styles, or metal farm gates, to a final wooden gate that brings you to a walled farm track. This bends to the right and brings you out onto the road above Maulds Meaburn. Turn right and descend the hill back into the village.
