Barbon is a parish in Lonsdale Ward.
It is in the Domesday Book as Berebrune and is probably derived from barr or berr brunn - bare looking burn or stream.
Barbon is about 20 miles from Maulds Meaburn. It is just off the road running from Sedburgh
to Kirby Lonsdale the A683.A small beck runs through the village to join the River Lune.
It has a 17th century coaching inn - The Barbon Inn.
St Bartholomew church was built in 1893 in the Perpendicular style by Paley and Austin. It was built on a site occupied
by a 1600s chapel, and the present church retains 17th century carvings.

Close by is historic Barbon manor house which was built in the Italian style and is now surrounded by woodland.
An agricultural show and sheepdog trials are held annually in August.
