Great Ormside

A beautiful little village about 6 miles from Maulds Meaburn. It is at the end of a
no through road and has views towards the Pennines. The River Eden flows by the outer
edges of the village and it has a fine Norman church and an old hall.
The village was probably named after a viking - Orm.
The church contains some information panels, one of which refers to the Orm bowl which was found in the
area and is thought to be of Anglo Saxon origin
